The Mohawk Valley Health System in Utica, NY, is looking for its next forward thinking, high performing Corporate Director of Total Rewards to lead the next evolution of our system total rewards strategy.
About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the MVHS Vice President of Human Resources/CHRO, the Corporate Director of Total Rewards serves as a strategic human resources leader and will be responsible for the design, implementation and communication of the MVHS Total Rewards Strategy. Operating within a Shared Services approach to HR service delivery, the Director is responsible for ensuring our total rewards programs, including Benefits, Compensation, Retirement, Wellness and HR Operations/Compliance (HRIS) systems are competitive, sustainable, scalable, and have an impact on the long and short term performance of the organization.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Partners with the CHRO and MVHS leadership to develop an integrated, system-wide Total Rewards philosophy and supporting policies and practices for MVHS to meet organizational objectives.
Analyzes current total rewards programs ensuring the strategic alignment, market competitiveness, cost-effectiveness, and positive impact on the system’s recruitment and retention of top talent.
Provides MVHS strategic and operational leadership in the design, development, implementation, administration, and communication of our Total Rewards programs including health, welfare, wellness, retirement, base pay, incentives, and other rewards and perquisites.
Oversees the design and administration of compensation programs including base pay, variable pay, merit, compensation planning, and market analysis with a focus on continuous improvement.
Provides supervision and oversight to the research, acquisition, implementation and continuous upgrade/improvements/leveraging of the HRIS systems.
Within the MVHS HR Shared Services system, provides supervision of a team of six individuals (Benefits Manager, HR Operations/Compliance (HRIS) Manager, and a team of HR specialists within the Compensation, Benefits, and Retirement services. Supervisory responsibility include, but are not limited to interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving issues with department staff.
Remains continuously current regarding federal, state and local regulatory requirements including the Employee Retirement Income Security act (ERISA), NYS FLSA regulations including minimum wage and exempt status requirements, FMLA, NYS PFL, COBRA and other applicable laws and regulations; fulfills compliance and reporting requirements, including all required filings and completing the annual EEOC reporting.
Develops and provides on-going updates to annual benefits programming including but not limited to benefits fairs, open enrollment processes and documents, written benefits communication and enrollment materials, benefit summaries, benefit orientation documents, plan descriptions and SPD notifications.
Directly manages vendor relations with all Total Reward vendors, including but not limited to conducting monthly, quarterly and ad hoc vendor meetings; strategic total rewards planning; plan design, analysis and execution; plan financials; problem resolution; and change management. Provides vendor evaluation on an annual basis for each Total Rewards vendor, recommending changes and initiating RFPs, as indicated.
Provides leadership that role models organizational I-CARE values and behavioral standards in employee and manager relations, intradepartmental and interdepartmental relations, interactions with community representatives, and in decision-making with regard to Total Rewards plans and recommendations. Drives organizational culture through modeling and accountability.
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration or related field from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree in HRM or Business Administration, preferred.
Professional certification in one or more areas of Total Rewards (CBS, CCP, ACCP, MCCP)
Demonstrated comprehensive and successfully applied knowledge and experience with to the design, implementation, management, evaluation and continuous development of all aspects of a Total Rewards program for a large organization (e.g., compensation, benefits, retirement, HRIS).
A minimum of eight (8) years experience Total Rewards leadership, demonstrating strategic impact on organizational performance against goals. History of effectively leading a team of HR Total Rewards professionals to achieve measurable program outcomes, professional development goals, and service excellence standards.
