The Opportunity: The Co-operators is looking for a Compensation Specialist in the Human Resources department. The work location for this role is flexible within Canada.
The Compensation Specialist provides input, analysis, support and recommendations from a compensation perspective. This role focuses on the implementation and continuous improvement of existing compensation policies, programs, processes and tools that align with and support our Total Rewards Philosophy and Business Strategy.
Completion of Degree in Business Administration, Commerce, Psychology, or Sociology with 3 years of experience in Human Resources, some of which is directly in compensation or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Completed or in the process of completing at least one of the following designations/certifications: Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP) or Certified Compensation Professional (CCP)
Working knowledge of job evaluation theory, processes and tools
Familiarity with compensation practices and principles such as job evaluation and market analysis
Familiarity with compensation related legislation (e.g. Employment Standards Act, Pay Equity, etc.)
Knowledge of other HR systems and tools and their impact on the compensation function
Strong analytical ability and critical thinking skills
Superior attention to detail with an emphasis on data integrity, accuracy and continuous improvement to processes
Strong influence and written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work with highly confidential information with diplomacy, professionalism and tact
Strong PC skills in MS Office (Word, Excel) as well as technical ability to quickly learn specific HR applications, retrieve pertinent information from databases and create detailed reports
Bilingualism an asset
