The HR Generalist works closely with the Director and Manager of Human Resources to carry out a wide range of human resources activities and programs for the DC office. This includes but is not limited to conducting candidate interviews and assisting with the selection and placement of viable staff candidates; participating in new hire orientation, and providing guidance and assistance to employees and management regarding the policies, practices and procedures relevant to the firm's benefits programs; and managing the DC office summer intern program.
Responsible for the onboarding process of all new hires, terminations, salary, position and status changes, etc., including preparation of Personnel Action Notices (PAN).
Central participant in new hire orientation covering benefits and serving as back up to the HR manager or HR coordinator in orientation, as needed.
Liaison with HR Chicago for all benefits and policy related inquiries and/or support.
Manage leave of absence process (i.e., STD, FMLA, workers' compensation) by working closely with employees and their supervisors and addressing medical accommodation requests.
Main contact for inquiries regarding employee benefits (CLT, insurance, WageWorks, etc.).
Assist HR manager in initial applicant screenings for staff positions and making recommendations for staff hires.
Participate in and conduct exit interviews for staff members in absence of HR manager.
Draft letters and memos as needed or requested.
Audit data and run queries in PeopleSoft to provide detailed reports and data analysis.
Primary contact for associate client secondments.
Manage the Staff Summer Intern process, including identifying needs, interviewing and selecting candidates for various staff positions.
Key contact for payroll related inquiries or procedures.
Primary liaison with Chicago immigration team for H1B, J1 Visas and green cards.
Responsible along with HR coordinator for ensuring the accuracy of DC employee data in HRIS database.
Provide back up to the HR coordinator when needed.

A minimum of 4 years of relevant work experience in Human Resources
Knowledge of the medical leave process, FMLA, and ADA.
High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Knowledge of HRIS systems, business office operations, and other operational procedures with a demonstrated application of process improvement.
Demonstrated ability to manage assigned projects independently
Experience with PeopleSoft database applications
Knowledge of H1B and J1 Visa process
Experience and comfort with public speaking
PHR or SPHR certification
