The Office of Human Resources, Compensation at the University of Maryland, Baltimore strives to support the strategic directives of the University and the needs of the campus to hire and retain highly qualified employees within a fiscally responsible environment. Market data for university staff positions is continuously collected and jobs are evaluated periodically to ensure positions are properly classified.
The team is currently recruiting for a Compensation Specialist who will assist with the development, implementation, and administration of the compensation programs for the University.

PRIMARY DUTIES include:
Collaborates with client to determine compensation needs and develops appropriate action plans.
Consults with clients to determine and recommend effective and efficient organizational structure and resource allocation within budgetary constraints of the client.
Performs job analysis, job evaluation, and organizational analysis recognizing the multiple markets in which the University competes for talent. Participates in market salary surveys and performs market pricing to determine internal and external job value. Identifies job descriptions and career ladders to assist clients in designing effective development opportunities within the unit.
Analyzes compensation data to determine trends and variances. Recommends a variety of approaches to address variances and compensation issues. Identifies, develops, and implements process improvements to enhance workflow and operations.
Reviews new positions in anticipation of recruitment to ensure appropriate classification. Based on position specific information, determines if an existing description can be used for classification. As necessary, modifies and creates job descriptions which accurately reflect current roles, responsibilities and requirements.
Participates as a member of committees, projects, or initiatives. Assists in development of project plans and defining scope of work. May independently manage or administer programs, processes, projects, or resources.
Performs compensation data integrity analysis and provides recommendations to correct any issues. Follows up with clients to ensure data is accurate.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education: Bachelor's degree.
Experience: Two (2) years of experience in job analysis, job evaluation, or other directly related human resource experience, including demonstrated experience in database and spreadsheet tools.
