About the position
Reporting to the Director, HR Policy and Programs, you will play an integral role in ensuring the Bank’s compensation and benefits program continues to support and enable the strategic goals established in the 2019-2021 strategic plan. The role requires planning, developing and implementing the Bank’s compensation and benefits programs, policies and procedures to be responsive to the Bank’s goals and market trends. The Bank has recently launched a renewed approach to total compensation, so you will also monitor its effectiveness in achieving its objectives. You will ensure that compensation and benefits programs are consistently administered and comply with Bank policies and applicable regulations. You will also lead a small team of senior compensation specialists.
This poster may also be used to staff permanent or term Senior Compensation Specialist vacancies; this role is a key contributor to projects to enhance, simplify, streamline and manage benefits and compensation practices, including changes to the job evaluation approach, a review of the job grade structure, and stabilization of recent changes to processes and technology in both cash compensation and benefits.
Your future responsibilities
establish a vision for the business line that accords with the strategic goals of HR and the Bank
identify, evaluate, recommend, and lead strategic initiatives to continue to enhance the Bank’s compensation and benefits strategies, programs and practices in order to fit with the strategic goals of the 3-year strategic plan
as the subject matter expert for the Human Resources Department, provide advice to employees on the interpretation of policies and guidelines
monitor trends affecting compensation and benefits and assess/recommend how the Bank can improve its practices or policies
liaise and collaborate with external partners, vendors and organizations, and participate in salary surveys
deliver strong analytical and research support on compensation and benefits practices and trends
set priorities, assign resources and delegate and perform work to achieve your team’s objectives
manage special projects as required
provide leadership and performance management; support employees’ professional development and enable them to optimize their contributions
Your education and experience
post-secondary education in human resources, industrial labour relations, business administration or a similar relevant field and a minimum of eight years of relevant work experience in compensation and benefits, including a minimum of three years in a leadership role
an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Certified Employee Benefit Specialist
Certified Compensation Professional
Certified Human Resources Professional or Certified Human Resources Leader
Your knowledge and skills You are experienced in developing policies and programs related to compensation and benefits. You can make sound decisions that are based on solid analysis, good judgment and an understanding of the context and different perspectives. You have strong leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to create team effectiveness, optimize performance, effect change, coach and provide guidance. You are a skilled communicator who is comfortable presenting information at all levels throughout the organization.
Language requirement: English and French essential (bilingual) with a minimum starting level of functional in second official language. Training may be provided to help the selected candidate reach the required level of fully functional in second official language.
