CPS HR Consulting has an opening for someone with experience and knowledge in public sector classification and compensation, who can perform work on a broad range of classification and compensation projects for clients within California and across the United States. The position can be located anywhere within the state of California. The incumbent will function as a team member or individual contributor, and at times, as a project manager, and may serve as the main point of contact with public sector client agencies – addressing and evaluating current classification and/or compensation issues and developing solutions that are tailored to meet the needs of the individual client. This position requires approximately 15-20% primarily local travel.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES include but are not limited to:
Work as part of a team of consultants and support staff on various client projects.
Perform online research and contact agencies via email and telephone to obtain classification specifications or job descriptions, salary and benefit information, along with information about the organizations and their market competition.
Review, analyze and draw conclusions about comparable benchmark classes.
Develop salary recommendations for non-benchmark classes.
Interview incumbents and supervisors about job duties, and other job-related information, conduct focus groups, and analyze, draw conclusions, and make recommendations.
Review and analyze job evaluation data to develop classification recommendations.
When managing a project, determine project staffing, resources, expenses, hours, etc., and establish a budget. Monitor project activities and expenditures. Lead the project team through all project activities.
Use diplomacy and tact when discussing concerns; and contribute to problem-solving conversations around client project needs.
Effectively communicate using active listening skills, excellent verbal and technical writing skills.
May also assist in providing content for proposals, estimating hours needed, and providing input on project approach.
Represent CPS HR with clients, particularly through groups and associations.
EDUCATION:Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or closely related field is required. Certification as a Certified Compensation Professional is highly desirable.
EXPERIENCE: Must have at least two years of professional experience in human resources, including classification and compensation. Must have knowledge of classification and compensation plan principles, and salary survey methodologies. Must be able to build and maintain constructive working relationships. Additionally, must have excellent customer service, and written and oral communication skills, be collaborative, and have a high attention to detail.
