Reporting to the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Human Resources and as a member of the Human Resources Leadership Team, the Director of Compensation provides professional and strategic oversight to the planning, design, and administration of the University of Pittsburgh's staff classification system and compensation (SCC) program. The Director through the SCC supports a multi-cultural diverse population of over 6,000 staff members across all segments of the University community including academic administration, business administration, and health sciences. This position requires a seasoned human resources professional with demonstrated experience in compensation management and an ability to function as a dynamic leader, project manager, and overall administrator in a complex, higher education environment.
The Director of Compensation will provide on-going direction and leadership to the development and administration of the University's compensation program and will be responsible for overseeing processes including but not limited to: Compensation staff management, internal customer consultation and service, external benchmarking analyses, promotions, annual salary increases, and supplemental payments. The Director will be expected to act as a partner to University departments and University leadership, providing consultation and direction as it pertains to compensation and general HR matters. The Director must maintain a current and working knowledge of federal, state, and local laws, trends and University Policy as pertaining to compensation management, wage and hour legislation and budgetary guidelines in order to ensure consistent and necessary compliance with the University's compensation policies and practices.
On a daily basis, the Director will oversee administrative operations, ensuring alignment with departmental objectives and compliance with department and University policies and procedures and legal requirements. The Director will provide direct supervision and guidance to the Compensation Analysts, evaluating performance and ensuring continuous professional development opportunities. The Director will work in partnership with the Director of Recruiting and other members of the Human Resources Management Team to ensure cohesiveness and collaboration between units, to and establish efficiencies that meet the needs of the University. The Director will continuously assess the effectiveness of the University's compensation program and resources, identifying and recommending opportunities to implement enhancements to better serve the Office of Human Resources and the University community.
The Director of Compensation will be expected to conduct all responsibilities with the highest degree of professionalism, formality, and sensitivity. Maintaining a high degree of confidentiality is critical.
Upon specific request by the senior leadership within the Office of Human Resources, handle high-profile, executive level compensation requests.
Beginning in 2017, the Director will lead a University wide effort to reimagine Total Rewards. Beginning with crafting a compensation philosophy, the Director will collaborate with a variety of stakeholders and content experts to develop, improve and implement the total rewards system for the University. This initiative will present a unique opportunity to provide holistic solutions in the way in which the University recognizes and rewards employees through an array of tools including base pay, awards, perquisites, career growth and development.
