Manager of Payroll/Compensation, Benefits, HR & Accounts Payable. This is a full-time, non-exempt position (40 hours per week) with The Pines at Davidson, Inc., an upscale, nonprofit continuing care retirement community (“CCRC”) in Davidson, NC. It involves recurring work that requires accuracy, but it also offers great variety and opportunity to interact with people. Areas of responsibility include overseeing payroll/compensation including the processing of a bi-weekly payroll for 210 employees, benefits and various human resource functions including workers compensation, unemployment claims and staff turnover reporting. The position is also responsible for overseeing accounts payable. Other duties may be assigned. The position interacts with both senior management and front-line staff and supervises one employee who provides dedicated support. The position is supported by The Pines’ labor and benefits attorneys, benefits and compensation consultants and vendors including ADP and a third party 403(b) plan administrator. It reports to the Vice President/CFO or in his or her absence the Controller.
Compensation & benefits. Compensation for this position is at or near the top among NC CCRCs and is competitive with major local companies. (The Pines is not publicly releasing the salary range for this position so any estimates posted on online job search sites and boards will not be accurate.) Benefits consist of medical insurance (Pines pays about 90% of cost of employee only coverage), including free preventive care and an employee assistance program (EAP); defined contribution 403(b) retirement plan offering employer and voluntary employee contributions (employer contribution has ranged from 5% to 8% over the last 10 years); 22 paid days per year for vacation (10 days), holiday (6 days) and sick leave (6 days), increasing to 28 days after 5 years (vacation increases to 15 days and holidays to 7 days after 5 years); up to 12 catastrophic (short-term disability) days per year (capped at 30); Pines-paid life ($50,000), accidental death and dismemberment and long-term disability insurance; voluntary dental and supplemental life insurance; and, access to on-site dining services, strength and cardio fitness facilities and warm water therapy pool. The work schedule is flexible, but is generally 8 hours per day Monday through Friday.
Required: The successful candidate must:
Have proven track record of good judgment and discretion.
Be proficient in data entry with experience accurately processing large amounts of data using automated systems.
Be detail oriented, accurate, dependable, organized and a problem solver.
Be proficient in Word, Excel and Outlook.
Be able to effectively communicate with front-line and management employees regarding matters related to areas of responsibility.
Be able to effectively handle deadlines, multiple interruptions and high volume.
Be able to work on evenings or weekends to accomplish the goals of the position if needed (however, evening and weekend work should be infrequent).
Have stable work history with experience in one or more of the areas of responsibility.
Preferred: The preferred candidate will have a:
College degree with a major in a subject related to areas of responsibility.
One or more HR or Payroll certifications including but not limited to Certified Compensation Professional (WorldatWork); Certified Benefits Professional (WorldatWork); Senior Professional in Human Resources (HRCI); SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM); Certified Employee Benefits Specialist (International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans); Certified Payroll Professional (American Payroll Association); or, Certified Public Accountant
