COMPENSATION MANAGER SAN ANTONIO, TX
Summary Description: Responsible for managing the compensation and retirement plan programs for the Company. Plans, develops, recommends and implements new and revised compensation strategies, programs, policies and procedures, in order to be responsive to the Company's strategic goals and competitive practices. Assures thorough audits and ensures compensation programs are consistently administered in compliance with Company policies and government regulations. Serves as member of the Human Resource Team, working in conjunction with other HR Managers to support the goals of the organization.
Monitors the effectiveness of current compensation polices, guidelines and procedures.
Coordinates procedures with Payroll and resolves any concerns including technology issues.
Participates in industry, governmental and/or community surveys to determine the Company's competitive position on compensation.
Plans, develops and/or participates in both exempt and non-exempt salary and benefits surveys to ensure corporate compensation objectives are achieved.
Evaluates and compares existing company compensation with those of other employers by conducting and reviewing other surveys sources of information. Analyzes results to develop specific recommendations for review by Director.
Coordinates all corporate and regional staff incentive programs, and develops communications for distribution, including Staff Incentive Plan Document.
Recommends strategy and enhancements to qualified and non-qualified retirement plans and responsible for oversight of plan administration. Responsible for ensuring retirement plan tax filings are completed by third-party administrators and distribution of required notices are provided, as applicable.
Researches marketplace and makes recommendations to identify wage bands.
Reviews and maintains the Performance Compensation Program annually.
Ensures company compliance with the provisions of various regulatory agencies and laws.
Plans, directs, supervises, and coordinates work activities of subordinates and staff relating to employment and compensation.
Ensures compliance with the provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERSIA), Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Keeps apprised of all other federal, state and local compensation laws and regulations to ensure company compliance.
Serves as internal consultant in compensation matters.
Assists in preparing announcement material, brochures, correspondences and other media for communicating new or revised plans to employees.
Updates compensation philosophy and keeps apprised of current trends impacting the market.
Maintains evaluation and internal equity analysis of jobs and makes appropriate recommendations.
Develops/ensures written compensation plans for each category of jobs.
Prepares standard and special reports and analysis for senior management as assigned.
Develops and maintains external cooperative relationships with corporate business partners that enable and support performance strategies and organizational effectiveness.
Develops and manages compensation budget.
Prepares and present ideas and recommendations to colleagues and upper management as assigned.
Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION: (Minimum formal education the job requires)
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Human Resources or related field, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
EXPERIENCE: (Minimum experience the job requires)
8 years’ experience preferably in restaurant industry
Five (5) years’ experience in compensation management and Human Resources
Demonstrated basic/intermediate-level ability to communicate, influence and negotiate decisions while motivating assigned staff
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment

Working knowledge of employment laws relating to employee relations and personnel administration
KNOWLEDGE: (Level of knowledge required to perform the job effectively)
Proficiency in MS Office Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint
Proficiency in JD Edwards preferred
Advanced professional or theoretical knowledge and functional concepts, practices and procedures of a particular field of specialization in the execution of assigned duties and responsibilities
Advanced understanding of the function’s structure and policies with a basic understanding of the structure and policies of Whataburger Restaurants LLC
Intermediate understanding of budgetary concepts and procedures
Intermediate ability to delegate projects and get work done through others
Intermediate understanding of performance review process
Ability to prepare and present ideas and recommendations to colleagues, manager and direct reports with minimal notice and preparation
PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATION: (Certificate requirement appropriate to position)
Certified Compensation Professional required, or willing to accomplish within an appropriate timeframe
