Currently, Meijer is looking for a Manager Compensation (Variable Pay). As a key partner on the Compensation team, responsible for developing and directing implementation of variable (short and long-term) compensation programs that are aligned to organizational strategies and complement the existing base pay program to provide a competitive level of pay, motivation and reward to Meijer team members. Will also assist on Executive compensation and deferred compensation programs. Will provide leadership on and day-to-day direction to the incentive processing team.
Provides leadership to the Company related to trends, opportunities, gaps, etc., including costing, organizational, team member and competitive impact of variable pay programs.
Based on knowledge of organizational strategies and goals, develops and recommends changes to variable pay design, policies and administrative procedures that ensure alignment across the business.
Assists with projects related to total compensation for Executive team, including base and variable pay.
Will assist with preparation and/or creation of materials for the Compensation Committee of the Board as required.
May provide guidance to leadership on new hire rates, promotions, special situations and/or exceptions related to Executive pay policy or practice.
Develops metrics and scorecards to monitors effectiveness of programs.
Provides direction and development to staff, building capacity for function.
Responsible for development and delivery of appropriate communication, education and reporting, including management reporting and analysis related to executive pay.
Maintains competitive intelligence on all key competitors related to executive and variable compensation programs.
Partners with Talent Development to enhance the pay for performance connection.
Bachelor's degree with HR, Finance, Business Administration or commensurate experience.
CCP or PHR certification preferred.
5-8 years of HR experience, with a minimum of 5 years in progressively more responsible Compensation roles.
Prior experience with executive pay programs preferred (base, STI and LTI).
Prior leadership experience required.
Prior experience in the retail industry preferred.
Prior experience with the Hay evaluation process preferred.
Strong analytical skills with ability to "top line" recommendations/findings.
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with all levels of leadership in a collaborative way.
Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Demonstrated ability to produce and deliver effective and impactful recommendations and presentations.
Strong project planning and time management skills and ability to get work done through delegation. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments.
Ability to identify, implement and measure the impact of process improvements within the function.
Ability to establish and maintain strong external relationships both within the industry and the profession. Ability to benchmark against other organizations and identify key take-aways that should/could be considered in the Meijer environment.
Ability to develop direct reports and provide clear direction/accountability.
