Position: Director, Payroll, Benefits and Compensation
Reports to: Vice President, Human Resources
Location: Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, this role is based at the corporate office in Toronto and is responsible for three payrolls, including Canadian, expatriate and US. The role oversees and is responsible for employee compensation programs and will lead the annual review process. Additionally, the role is responsible for benefit program management.
Role Overview: Reporting to the VP, Human Resources, the Director, Payroll, Benefits and Compensation will perform a wide variety of activities.
Payroll and Benefits:
Manage the full cycle payroll process for our Canadian, US and expatriate payrolls, including timesheet review, when necessary;
Ensure accurate and timely submission of semi-monthly payroll for both hourly and salaried employees across Canada and the US;
Deliver payroll and benefit services in compliance with provincial legislations;
Ensure all legislative requirements regarding tax withholding, remittance and income reporting have been met both on-going and at year-end;
Manage new hires, changes, and terminations in payroll records and benefits programs;
Ensure employees are paid in an accurate and timely manner;
Ensure payroll data, including bonuses, vacation, and variable compensation are reflected accurately in the payroll systems;
Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to resolve payroll and benefits issues;
Act as payroll subject matter expert for the organization and point of contact for all payroll related escalations;
Prepare periodic and on-demand reports;
Prepare materials for internal and external auditors as required;
Develop operating efficiency improvements and capabilities to enhance process;
Remain up-to-date with all legislative changes;
Manage the employee benefits, Medical, Dental, RRSP, ESPP, etc.; and
Work with Third party administrators and brokers on annual renewals and plan performance.
Oversee and administer the year-end compensation process (base salary adjustments, bonus, and long-term incentive recommendations) in the Toronto office;
Facilitate the global year-end compensation process;
Prepare salary survey submissions as required;
Prepare and review year-end letters/documentation; and
Draft annual Compensation and Discussion Analysis section of the Management Information Circular.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree with a focus on Human Resources Management or diploma in Human Resources or equivalent;
7+ years of experience in payroll, benefits and compensation;
Thorough knowledge of payroll legislation and all related legislation (provincial and Federal);
Strong quantitative skills with proficient Excel skills;
Professional attitude and well-developed interpersonal skills;
Aptitude for HR software programs;
Highly analytical, detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy;
Strong organizational skills with ability to multitask and accomplish tasks, projects, and goals efficiently;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
You are deadline driven and work well under pressure;
Demonstrated critical thinking and decision making skills;
High integrity with the ability to deal with confidential, sensitive information with a high degree of professionalism; and
Independent thinker with good judgment and discretion.
