Job Summary: This role reports to the Head of Enterprise Compensation in the Total Rewards Center of Excellence and will serve as the senior executive compensation expert at SunTrust. In addition to developing materials for the Compensation Committee, Executive Council and Proxy, this teammate will provide thought leadership and best-practice recommendations to inform enterprise compensation programs and executive compensation practices.
He/she will determine, acquire, analyze and synthesize appropriate data sources from industry best practices to create data-driven, actionable insights for the enterprise. This role will be responsible for building and implementing strategies for delivery of compensation programs to ensure competitiveness, appropriate linkages between pay and performance, and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
Role will collaborate and partner with multiple stakeholders, including Legal, Finance, Technology, HR Business Partners, Risk, Compliance, executive leadership and the Compensation Committee.
Keyresponsibilities: • Collects and creates materials for Compensation Committee meetings and pre-meetings. • Leads the development of the CD&A for the Proxy. • Partners with Compensation Committee consultant to gather market insights. • Conducts external research and benchmarking to ensure that SunTrust is leveraging “best-in-class” programs. • Drives design efforts around annual incentive plans, long-term incentive plans, deferred compensation plans and executive benefits, leveraging deep subject matter expertise and market trends. • Independently leads projects with indirect management of other teammates. • Develop communication materials/presentations on findings and recommendations for executive leadership. • Proactively identifies opportunities for process improvements and devises and implements solutions. • Maintain policies and procedures related to executive and management compensation programs. • Recommends total compensation packages and external offers for executive leaders. • Drives education on executive compensation related programs. • Manages third-party vendor relationships, including our stock and deferred compensation administrators. • Leverages technology solutions to drive accurate and efficient program administration. • Participates in other Total Rewards projects as needed. • Acts as a resource for other teammates.
Consultant must be credible to stakeholders and must demonstrate strong interpersonal skills, as well as, have deep subject matter expertise in executive compensation, including regulatory and market trends, with ability to apply knowledge to drive a range of design and operational improvements. This individual must be detail-oriented, self-motivated and able to work independently with limited direction and effectively prioritize activities to provide guidance to matrixed teammates. Strong problem-solving skills, and use both quantitative and qualitative methods to deliver impactful, scalable and sustainable solutions. Must demonstrate sound judgment and ability to interpret and effectively communicate complex information/data.
Minimum Requirements: • Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 5 years of professional experience. • 3 years of demonstrated experience using principles, practices, theories, and/or methodologies associated with Compensation. • Understands foundational concepts of other related professional disciplines. • Experience managing projects or project work-streams. • Knowledge of the industry's competitive landscape and the factors impacting Compensation. • Ability to interpret and explain complex information to a range of audiences and build consensus among different stakeholders. • Ability to provide direction and mentor less experienced teammates. • Demonstrated ability to partner with business to understand the business needs and develop suitable compensation / incentive programs. • Excellent communication skills.
Preferred Requirements: • 5+ years of experience in executive compensation, including extensive experience supporting Compensation Committee of a public company. • Experience working in the financial services industry. • Experience working with outside vendors.
