With TransCanada’s growth in meeting the demands for energy across North America, we are seeking a Senior Human Resources Compensation Specialist. The successful candidate will work as part of the Compensation Team at the corporate head office within the Human Resources department in Calgary. The Compensation Team manages the compensation function across all business lines and areas of the company in Canada, the US, and Mexico. The team is responsible for research, analysis, design, implementation, evaluation, communication and execution of the compensation programs and related processes and systems across all business areas in the countries in which TransCanada operates. The team also participates in, or manages special projects requiring interface with vendors, consultants, and company personnel at all levels. The successful candidate will report to the Manager of Compensation and will work closely with all members of the team.
Act as technical resource on TransCanada’s annual compensation programs to ensure adherence to compensation philosophy and principles, application of compensation rules and guidelines, alignment to market competitive practices and compliance with legislative requirements;
Act as a project manager for medium to large compensation-related projects or cross-functional work streams;
Develop complex compensation models, analyses and reports for senior leaders and stakeholders, such as the Human Resources Committee of the Board of Directors to facilitate and/or influence compensation recommendations and/or decisions;
Act as technical resource for executive compensation and annual proxy circular disclosure;
Consult to HR and line management on interpretation of compensation philosophy, compensation issues, market information, and annual programs;
Stay current on legislation, trends, changes and advances in the relevant markets, evaluate impact and advise senior management as needed to ensure competitiveness and compliance of programs in all relevant markets (e.g. pay equity, variable compensation, etc.);
Coordinate annual program timelines and activities with HR stakeholders;
Develop, execute, and integrate changes to annual compensation programs and communication plans;
Develop annual budgets and reports for management and the Board of Directors;
Collaborate with Canadian, U.S., and Mexican personnel to tailor comprehensive and equitable compensation plans;
Interpret and analyze market data, factors, and influences to apply findings across the organization and the markets in which it operates;
Represent TransCanada in industry meetings, influence the design of industry surveys, solicit ad-hoc market information and consult with industry peers with respect to compensation practices;
Build and maintain collaborative client relationships with other stakeholders in HR, including consulting and delivering presentations.
In-depth knowledge of total rewards principles and practices;
Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in compensation administration and statistical analysis;
An analytical mindset and ability to interpret data, recognize and communicate trends, and develop materials to present key findings;
Results-driven, detail-oriented, and a high level of accuracy is essential;
Experience working on Board and/or Committee materials, proxy circular disclosure, executive compensation, design, implementation and administration of long-term incentive compensation vehicles a definite asset;
Knowledge and understanding of US Compensation related matters and associated regulations a definite asset;
Able to set priorities, multi-task, and allocate time effectively in a fast-paced and demanding environment;
Excellent written, verbal communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills with all levels in the organization;
Assertive, decisive under pressure, and convincing in presentation;
Committed to taking initiative and being collaborative while contributing to and supporting TransCanada values in a team environment.
A relevant undergraduate degree with a minimum 10 years of human resource experience (preferably in compensation) in a large, complex, corporate environment;
An equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered;
Knowledge of Canadian and US Energy, Power and Utility industry compensation practices;
Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint);
Previous experience in SAP HR Modules and Service Now would be considered an asset;
Merger and acquisition experience would be considered an asset;
Knowledge and experience related to implementation of processes, programs and communication related to pay equity compliance would be considered an asset.
