Triton College, a comprehensive two year institution located in a near western suburb of Chicago, is seeking a Benefits Manager to join our team.
The Benefits Manager is responsible for the administration of all employee benefits offered through the Human Resources Department. The manager will serve as the primary contact and subject matter expert to employees in providing guidance and assistance in the understanding, election, and processing of employee benefits. The manager will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations, maintaining all benefit plans, and making recommendations for new benefits and improvements to existing benefits.
A. Administers all employee benefits plans including health insurance, life insurance, short-term/long term disability, and flexible spending accounts.
B. Handles benefits inquiries and complaints to ensure quick, equitable, courteous resolution. Maintain contact with hospitals, physicians, insurance companies, employees, and beneficiaries to facilitate proper and complete utilization of benefits for all employees.
C. Assure compliance with provisions of Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Affordable Care Act. Prepare reports and applications required by law to be filed with federal and state agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service, Department of Labor, insurance commissioners, and other regulatory agencies. Review and analyze changes to state and federal laws pertaining to benefits, and report necessary or suggested changes to management.
D. Develops cost control procedures to assure maximum coverage at the least possible cost to the organization and employee
E. Recommends and implements approved new plans or changes to existing benefits; prepares announcement materials, plan summary documents and other media for communicating plans to employees.
F. Interprets and administers leave programs and policies in accordance with the applicable federal and state employment laws (FMLA, ADA, USERRA, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, etc.).
G. Processes airline reservations for employees traveling on College business; completes billing for employee air travel
H. Administers the Adjunct Faculty Wellness program in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement
I. Responsible for the administration of the employee tuition reimbursement and tuition waiver programs
J. Works with the Payroll Department to ensure accurate employee benefit deductions
K. Serves on the College's Insurance Committee and primary liaison with insurance carriers
L. Performs other duties as Assigned by the Associate Vice President of Human Resources
Education: Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration or related field ; CEBS certification preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in Human Resources and benefits administration preferably in Higher Education.
Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of health, life, retirement, and voluntary benefits. Strong knowledge of healthcare law, as well as state and federal employment laws.
Skills: Highly organized, detail oriented, analytical thinking and results-driven required. Must have demonstrated ability to draw conclusions and trends from data analysis and offer appropriate solutions to improve programs. Strong abilities in written and verbal communication, problem analysis and resolution, and interpersonal communication.
