Reporting to the Vice President Total Rewards, the Associate Vice President Total Rewards leads initiatives related to Total Rewards strategies with a special focus in Compensation program design, development and execution. The position is a subject matter expert in all areas of compensation to include base pay, variable pay, and executive compensation. Accountable to ensure compensation alignment with Medical Center organizational strategy, goals, and competitive practices. Recommends and implements short- and long-term compensation strategies to ensure that the Medical Center Total Rewards strategies align with the achievement of Total Rewards program objectives. Serves as internal consultant to and responsible for supporting executive compensation programs. Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to:
Executive and Management Compensation
Responsible for the development, implementation, communication, and administration of the Medical Center’s executive and management compensation programs and provides key leadership to other broad-based on-going and/or event-driven compensation initiatives. Manages a team of professionals and fosters collaboration across functions to accomplish objectives.
Serving as an internal executive compensation subject matter expert to C suite and Board stakeholders, drives the process for the timely development and preparation of materials for the Governance and Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors, in conjunction with legal, finance, and external consultants
Supports the development of the compensation analysis and related discussion of executive compensation strategy and programs
Coordinates survey participation for executive job market pricing
Supports the SVP Chief People Officer and other executive leadership in the execution of the annual incentive goal-setting process and its coordination to include the design, administration and communications that support the annual management incentive program
Participates in planning and preparation of annual management incentive design, analysis, and recommendations
Leads the on-going administration of the Supplemental Executive Retirement Plan (SERP)
Serves as subject matter expert to guide and support executive hire and severance events
Works closely with the AVP Compensation and other People Team leadership on the execution of day to day activities and on related projects and analysis in support of recommendations for CEO approval
Broad-based Employee Compensation
Participates in the development of the Medical Center’s overall compensation philosophy and related employee communications regarding compensation
Participates in ongoing compensation initiatives, to include, benchmarking, ad hoc analysis, support of business issues, communications and planning for the annual compensation cycles to include the merit increase and market pricing processes.
Assumes Compensation function project leadership for key organization changes events to include major organizational restructures and merger, acquisition and divestiture events
Develops on-going metrics and regular management reporting regarding salary and incentive programs
Ensures compensation programs are communicated in a meaningful and relevant manner that engages and educates leadership and employees helping them understand compensation as a component of the Medical Center’s Total Rewards value proposition
Leads planning and development of effective end user communication of Compensation programs and facilitates communications and training in program offerings, web tools and portals, systems, and processes
Trains HR Business Partners and leaders and assists with communications regarding faculty, physician and staff salary and incentive programs
Partners with Finance, Legal and Internal Audit to identify cost, risk and legal implications to Compensation programs and potential changes.
Leverages HRIS and Work Day technology and taps best practices to execute transformation initiatives and process improvement projects that drive efficiency and cost savings while maintaining a positive employee experience.
Ensure all programs are administered in compliance with government regulations. This includes management of all compliance filings, reports, and audits related to the administration of employee compensation programs either directly or through vendor/partners.
Fifteen plus years of related work experience with increasing responsibilities in total rewards, compensation, executive compensation, benefits, or compensation consulting to include managing a team of professionals
Experience in designing and administering comprehensive, innovative and competitive Total Rewards solutions in a complex environment
Prior Board of Directors support, executive and broad-based compensation experience required
Experience in healthcare industry highly preferred
Solid business acumen and strategic thinker with excellent grasp of financial drivers of Total Rewards programs
Strong executive presence with an ability to communicate well with all employee levels of the organization, including advising, influencing, persuading and gaining the confidence of executives, senior leadership and faculty on sensitive issues
Consistent track record of identifying problems and using strategic skills to drive appropriate solutions
Results driven with ability to develop and execute strategies and sense of urgencySkilled in developing strong collaborative relationships/partnerships within the organization (ie: Medical Center Executives, Leaders, HRBPs, COEs, Finance, IT, Internal Audit) and with external consultants and vendor partners
Demonstrated strong leader, capable of attracting, engaging, and retaining high performance teams
Skills & Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience identifying, designing, implementing and administering innovative business solutions to complex Total Rewards and Compensation challenges
Ability to independently work with executives and senior leaders and present to them with confidence, impact and influence
Demonstrated experience in leading to strategy formulation and in leading large-scale change initiatives
Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem solving skills
Advanced knowledge of regulatory environment and governing standards for broad-based compensation and executive compensation
Strong knowledge of compensation plan design, administration practices, and related technology support solutions
Expertise in implementing and leveraging HRIS systems that support Total Rewards programs and processes
Ability to work well under pressure and balance tactical and strategic objectives
Excellent Excel, Powerpoint, and Word skills
