Build a career in an industry that makes a difference in people's lives. California Credit Union is seeking an experienced Sr. Benefits and Compensation Specialist to join our HR team.
The Senior Benefits and Compensation Specialist position is responsible for administering company programs, ensuring their proper administration and working to achieve greater efficiency. This position works closely with both the AVP, HR Operations and SVP, Human Resources to ensure benefit and compensation programs operate in compliance with applicable laws and to research and benchmark benefits programs to ensure they are competitive with peer organizations. As part of the HR Operations team, this role is based in Glendale.
Manage all health, wellness, life, retirement, LOA, and Workers’ Compensation plans and programs, including regulatory plan documents, SPDs, ongoing plan audits, vendor management and ongoing program strategy.
Escalation point for all employee benefit inquiries and provide plan expertise as needed to Human Resources (HR) staff or management.
Work closely with HR management to ensure on-time delivery and communications of program information to ensure optimal utilization of programs by staff. Assist in ongoing communications strategy that will encompass all locations and branches.
Research, analyze information and make recommendations to support the set-up and administration of policies and benefits, as needed.
Support Annual Open Enrollment strategy, working on file interfaces, platform requirements and design and communications.
Manage ACA-related reporting, filings, and communications, working closely with company’s vendor partners and internal departments to ensure ACA and other benefits compliance (e. g., HIPAA, COBRA, etc.).
Provide guidance and expertise to staff on benefit administration issues, efficiencies, and invoicing. Provide validation of benefits related invoices for payment; review for accuracy and reconcile discrepancies. Audit benefits enrollments and changes within HRIS as needed.
Oversee Leave of Absence and Workers Compensation programs. Work closely with Payroll to develop and implement process for management of all approved LOAs.
Administer and adhere to Injury and Illness Prevention Plan (IIPP).
Work closely with SVP, Human Resources to execute compensation analysis, job leveling and other projects as needed.
Help administer the market-based compensation system (CompEase), which includes market pricing and analyzing, interpreting and distributing data to aid in compensation decision making.
Provide compensation analysis and project support including conducting internal and external compensation analysis, participating in market surveys and working with managers to create and update job descriptions.
Evaluates jobs based on market data. Compiles, ages, and analyzes market data for compensation action requests and benchmarks positions for salary increases.
Regularly monitors and provides analysis of key compensation statistics, data, trends, and best practices to assist clients when making data driven human resource decisions and for more effective planning.
Other duties and HR projects as assigned.
Position Requirement and Qualifications:
Abilities and Experience:
Strong understanding of ERISA, IRS regulations and HR laws and regulations, particularly those applicable to benefit programs (e. g., 401(k), health care and leave legislation, etc.).
Experience with 403(b) and 457 defined contribution plans (preferred).
Familiarity with data interfaces to and from internal systems to vendors, including development of user acceptance testing and data implementation.
Strong analytic and quantitative skills; Ability to perform extensive data analysis, troubleshooting and creative problem resolution, including diagnostics and streamlining.
Strong communication (oral and written), listening, presentation, and facilitation skills.
Ability to provide effective training on benefits.
Ability to solve problems independently.
Knowledge of HRIS systems (Ceridian (preferred)), Microsoft suite, benefit enrollment systems.
Ability to solve practical problems and carry out responsibilities under general supervision. Must be analytical and detail oriented.
Ability to plan and organize workload for effective implementation.
Ability to write correspondence, memo, procedures and present information in group situations.

Knowledge, Education, Certifications, Licenses:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 6+ years of Benefits related experience, including administration of retirement, health and welfare program and non-qualified retirement plans; 1-2 years of experience in compensation preferred.
