What You’ll Do: The Director of Benefits will be a subject matter expert with robust experience in the execution of health, welfare, and wellness benefits programs and strategies. Serving as trusted advisor, this role also provides in-depth guidance and support to corporate and business unit HR to meet operational needs. The role requires a ‘hands-on’/’roll-up-your-sleeves’ approach to work with, and through, a lean corporate and decentralized HR team.
Develop and implement benefits strategy and action plans aligned with company objectives.
Develop and implement a communication strategy that helps educate business unit HR and plan participants about benefit design and plan cost/value.
Maintain high-quality and cost-effective management of the Company’s health and welfare benefit programs, practices, and design initiatives with an emphasis on safety, quality, service, cost/productivity, and compliance.
Direct management of health & welfare vendors to maximize service levels for plan management and participants while negotiating favorable contract terms and conditions. Lead negotiations and renewals with vendors.
Provide direction and guidance to business unit HR and plan participants regarding benefit inquiries, plan appeals, etc.
Lead financial, strategic, and statistical analysis involved in designing, developing and managing benefit plans. Note: Innovu LLC is ELLWOOD’s data manager of record and may be used as primary data source for analysis.
Ensure benefit plan compliance with all regulations, including acting in response to new/changing laws and ensuring plan documents and SPDs are updated. Also, serve as HIPAA Privacy Officer.
Perform analysis and recommendations on special projects, including value/risk analysis on due diligence acquisitions and new company integrations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Human Resources.
Five years direct experience in health and welfare benefit administration, 401(k) benefit administration or CEBS certification a plus.
Minimum 2 years’ experience with HRIS.
Minimum 2 years’ experience training and presenting complex benefit programs to employees, managers, and leaders.
Proficiency in speaking, comprehending, reading and writing English.
Skills and Abilities:
In-depth knowledge and understanding of employee benefits administration, including knowledge of medical, dental, life, disability, vision, STD, LTD, FSA, HSA, workers compensation and 401(k) plans
In-depth knowledge of ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, FMLA and ADA.
Analytical and problem-solving skills to deal with a variety of abstractions and concrete variables in situations where only limited or no standardization exists.
Excellent planning and organizational ability to plan and prioritize work activities and multiple projects for self and work teams, develop realistic action plans, and use time and resources efficiently to accomplish objectives within established time periods.
Excellent written and oral presentation skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from employees, managers, and the public.
Interpersonal leadership skills, such as listening, informing, patience, openness, integrity, trust, and confidentiality, interpersonal savvy, and conflict management to build effective teams, excellent peer and work relationships.
High ethical standards regarding the handling of confidential information with knowledge of data protection laws.
Ability to work outside of normal work hours and travel both regionally and nationally (approximately 25% of the time).
