Loyola Marymount University seeks a Human Resource Specialist – Compensation. Under general direction, this position is responsible for evaluating new and revising jobs and recommending job classification, compensation, job attributes and FLSA status to ensure internal equity, external competitiveness, and compliance with Federal, State and local regulations and in accordance to LMU compensation guidelines and policies. This positon will also provide counsel to management regarding compensation actions for staff; performing desk audits as necessary. The Human Resource Specialist – Compensation will advise management regarding compensation issues, review salary increases to ensure compliance with established guidelines and policies, conduct research, salary surveys, analyze data and prepare recommendations requiring a broad understanding of compensation techniques, methods and practices.
This position will be responsible for maintaining the integrity of LMU’s compensation programs. As well as maintaining familiarity with resources, such as historical data, legal application, and best practices. The Human Resource Specialist – Compensation will lead the development and maintenance of internal activity tracking and reporting systems; establish control procedures that ensure all salary transactions are in line with policies and applicable laws and the job evaluation plan is fair and equitable. The role is responsible for ensuring efficient and compliant compensation processes and systems and consulting with recruitment to ensure salary offers will maintain internal equity within the job classification and unit or department. The Human Resource Specialist – Compensation will participate in the development of the annual wage plan for the LMU, review the labor market and identify changes in market rates in order to maintain the LMU’s competitive position, develop background data to support recommendations, identify benchmarks needing special consideration to remain competitive, and prepare documentation and cost analysis to present to management as well as meet with management to review market position and recommendations.
Other duties will include but are not limited to: assisting in the administration of performance management evaluations system and in ensuring compliance within LMU’s timekeeping system by informing community members on proper procedures to complete, approve or amend timesheets, Ensure compliance with all appropriate wage & hour laws, regulations, and policy & procedure including but not limited to FLSA, ADA, etc., Represent LMU within benefit community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on committees as required.
LMU’s Human Resource Specialist – Compensation should have demonstrated knowledge in the areas of: Compensation administration, California Wage Orders, FLSA, ADA, EEOC, and other applicable laws and/or regulations, as well as exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries incorporating complex, highly technical information and highly developed organizational and leadership skills. The candidate should also have a demonstrated computer competency, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and preferably knowledgeable of HRIS systems.
