The South Dakota Bureau of Human Resources is seeking to fill the position of Classification and Compensation Manager. In this role you will manage the activities associated with classification, compensation, and salary administration for state agencies.
oversees development of job classes and assignment of pay grades;
plans, coordinates, and assigns Class & Comp projects;
designs creative solutions to specific compensation-related programs and special pay plans;
partners with Human Resources Business Partners to design and implement compensation plans;
support Human Resource Business Partners to ensure successful administration of compensation policies and procedures;
performs and oversee compensation planning and analysis;
provides staff guidance on classification and evaluation activities; conducts job analysis and evaluation as necessary;
reports and provides compensation related information to administration and legislature;
provides compensation information to agencies, employee groups, and others;
responds to inquiries pertaining to compensation, classification and staffing information;
conducts and participates in salary surveys;
supervises classification and compensation staff.
This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Bachelor's degree in business, human resources or related field and progressively responsible experience in employee compensation is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
knowledge of laws and regulations as they apply to base compensation and incentive compensation programs, company policies, and operations.
knowledge of federal and state rules and regulations and compliance requirements related to employee compensation.
strong analytical skills and ability to interpret and communicate data.
computer proficiency and strong technical skills using Excel and Microsoft Query.
strong leadership and team management skills.
excellent time management skills and ability to plan and set priorities.

strong interpersonal skills in dealing with senior management.
